Do you engage in any of these behaviors?

• You eat your emotions. • You crave fattening food and cannot stop yourself from buying it and eating most or all of it. • You are always on a diet of some kind. If you aren't on a diet, you are thinking about the next diet. This includes fasting, detoxing, paleo, or any of the next 'magic pills' that come along. • You constantly put off buying new clothes until you lose 10 pounds, which hardly ever seems to happen. • You eat in secret, and hide your empty food containers. • You avoid going out with friends because you don't want to eat in front of others, or because you are embarrassed about your current weight. • The night before you go "on a diet," you indulge in all the foods you will "never eat again." • When you wake up from a food hangover you swear you'll never do that again. But you do it anyway. • Sometimes you feel sure you are addicted to food. • You sometimes feel out of control with regards to how much you eat. • You have learned to ignore both your hunger signals and your fullness signals. • You are ashamed of your eating habits and/or your body. • You feel less sexy when you have overindulged in food and avoid sexual activity when you "feel fat."

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!

It's time to work on changing your relationship with food. Food is for nourishment and pleasure. For a variety of reasons, we have changed our relationship with food into an obsession and an out-of-control habit.

• Learn why have you developed these behaviors and learn why you still engage in them, even when you have insight into their origins. • RELEARN to listen to and respond to your hunger and fullness signals. • Learn new habits to get through stressful times, vacations, holidays, cruises, family visits, evenings, out, etc., without resorting to overeating or bingeing. • Learn that food is not your friend, but it's also not your enemy. • Learn to not judge yourself by what the scale says, and to be motivated by something besides weight loss.
• Learn to accept and express your emotions rather than to numb them or push them down. • Learn to take care of yourself. • Learn to love yourself, no matter your size.

SERVICES OFFERED

• Some people just need to learn new habits. Non-therapy psychoeducational classes are offered. • Some people need individual therapy to learn to deal with issues that have been troubling them for years.
• Some people can benefit from both individual therapy and a support group. • Some people need help for their loved ones who have problematic food issues.
• Some people benefit from individual therapy, as well as couples counseling to get needed support and understanding.

All of these services are available. Call me. I understand. I can help.
