A somatic psychotherapist, trainer since 1982, I work exclusively with singer's, actors, dancers, as well as with those those folks who use their voice professionally in their work. Learning to be authentic in front of other humans is not always easy- but well worth the journey. In fact, many people feel that dying would be easier than having to communicate in front of an audience.

Unresolved trauma is a big part of this source of our panic states that prevent us from being in the state of calm, and only where true emotions are experienced. Our survival muscles, also called the muscles of initiation or emotional muscles, are also the muscles that control speech and singing. When we are in a state of fight-flight-freeze, they lose their relaxed elasticity and go into either a hyper or hypo mode of functioning. This is what I call either minimized or aggrandized functioning, and neither of them are effective for authentic, nuanced, and effective communication.

There are somatic principles, exercises, and strategies that are used in the professional entertainment industry that you can benefit from, even if you are not Broadway bound. These transmittable skills and contemplative approaches begin to ground your body and psyche. They provide you with a somatic inside-out orientation that is key to learning to manage the energy that is generated when an audience is present. If you do not know how to condition these small, intrinsic muscles layer, you will continue to be 'taken-out' and lose energy.

I also utilize advanced technologies that can directly get under the biological protective mechanisms that generate these suffering states, which prevent us from being relaxed and authentic in front of others. I can train the Central Nervous System to orient more toward relaxation rather then panic and anxiety, its natural orientation (except when an overload of unresolved trauma is being carried). These are tried and true approaches that are highly effective: NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback Brain Training & the Tomatis® Method, both of which I am certified in.

If your condition warrants, I also provide advanced somatic therapies that free the tenstion-fear that is held in your body. If you are carrying a certain threshold of unresolved fear in your nervous system, it will take over in 'charged' situations, and you lose a good degree of present moment awareness and functioning. This has been 100% understood in certain strata of the Oriental non-aggressive martial arts, which I have trained in and taught since 1985. I began working with singers and actors in 1982 in NYC and have mastered a number of somatic therapies that are fully non-aggressive and highly effective, including Rolfing®, Cranio Sacral, Chua Ka® Bodywork (the most sophisticated bodywork for discharging fear, in a completely non-aggressive manner).

I am also a singer and voice trainer, and perform & teach regularly in front of live audiences. As well known acting coach Matt Chait from LA says, "David practices what he preaches".

I am also happy to hear from you, to explore if we might be a good fit to work together. This is my lifetime work and encompasses all that I do.
