Susan Nimmanheminda, PhD, LCSW, CAC III has been a psychotherapist working in the Boulder area for over 20 years. She works with individuals (adolescents and adults), couples, and groups. Since getting her master's degree in clinical social work she has continued to train and learn new skills in Hakomi body oriented psychotherapy, substance treatment, group dynamics, EMDR and psychoanalysis. She has been integrating mindfulness and psychotherapy for over ten years. Susan works with individuals who are struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, self esteem, relationship problems, sexuality and substance abuse, as well as people who feel they are "generally pretty happy" but are looking for support in creating a richer, more productive and satisfying life.
Susan's approach is eclectic and draws from the wide range of training programs she's participated in over the years. Her style of psychotherapy is very individualized depending on the person's needs, strengths and treatment goals.
As well as being in private practice, Susan is a member of the Faculty and Leadership Team at Naropa University in the department of Contemplative Counseling Psychology. She has taught group process for over thirteen years and this year is teaching Practicum, Diversity & Multiculturalism and Master's Paper. Susan is the former Executive Director of the Colorado Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies and Director of Program Development at the Colorado Center for the Advancement of Group Studies.
Susan maintains membership in the Colorado Group Psychotherapy Society, Division 39 of the American Psychological Association and the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis.
