4. AEP Theory: Roots, Philosophy, and Clinical Theory: Module IV

  • Discuss articles by Betty Cannon and Reed Lindberg on AEP.

  • Discuss chapters from the new book that Reed and Betty are writing: In the Spirit of Play: Applied Existential Psychotherapy.

  • Understand the relevance of AEP theory to work with clients.

  • View videotapes that provide examples of AEP work.

  • Participate in experiential exercises that demonstrate AEP work.

The Workshop Leaders: Betty Cannon, Ph.D., Boulder Psychotherapy Institute President and AEP founder, is a licensed psychologist and certified Gestalt therapist. She has worked with individuals, couples and groups for over 30 years and trained psychotherapists for over 20 years. She is professor emerita of the Colorado School of Mines and adjunct professor at Naropa University. Betty is a member of the editorial boards of three professional journals: Sartre Studies International, Existential Analysis, and Review of Existential Psychology and Psychiatry. She is an internationally known author, lecturer and workshop presenter. She is the author of many journal articles and book chapters on existential psychotherapy. Her book, Sartre and Psychoanalysis, is considered a classic in existential psychology.

Reed Lindberg, M.A., L.P.C., is the Managing Director of the Boulder Psychotherapy Institute. He has worked primarily with couples and individuals on relationship issues for the past 30 years. He is the co-author with Betty Cannon of "Being Yourself While Being with Another: Bad Faith and the Couples' Dilemma," in Existential Perspective on Relationship Therapy, ed. Emmy Van Deurzen and Susan Iacovou (Palgrave Macmillan 2013) and the author of "Eoyore and Tinkerbell: An AEP Perspective on Couples Therapy" (Hermeneutic Circular, October 2013).
