Deborah Bowman, Ph.D., Boulder Psychotherapy Institute senior teaching faculty, is a licensed clinical psychologist and certified Gestalt therapist with over 25 years experience. She integrates Gestalt, Jungian, creative and contemplative approaches to therapy. She has extensive experience working with grief, depression, anxiety, women’s and men’s issues, dreams and the creative arts. Deborah has worked with the dying at Boulder County Hospice and investigated child abuse with Boulder County Social Services. As a psychotherapist she is interested in helping others discover their loving, wise, spontaneous and present life.
Deborah offers training for mental health professionals in Gestalt, dream work, child within and creative arts therapy. She enjoys supervising psychotherapists and working with professional issues in embodied, experiential and creative modalities.
Deborah is co-author of the book, When Your Spouse Comes Out: A Straight Mate’s Recovery Manual and author of a book of inspirational photographs and writings, The Luminous Buddha: Image and Word and The Female Buddha: Discovering the Heart of Liberation and Love. She has displayed her art and photography in galleries in Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and Wyoming.
Deborah is a full Professor at Naropa University where she co-founded the Master's Program in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology and developed the Wilderness Therapy Program. At Naropa she teaches Gestalt, Group Dynamics, and Professional Identity for students in their internship. Deborah teaches classes on Buddhism at Nalandabodhi Boulder. She is the former president of Boulder Graduate School and is currently on the advisory board of the Boulder Friends of Jung.
